Reading a tile
- Bare top
- Unglazed clay. Shows the body colour after firing.
- Top line
- First dip, 3 seconds. The glaze thins at the line and breaks to its edge colour.
- Ridges
- Three pressed lines. Glaze pools in the groove and thins on the edge above it.
- Lower half
- Second dip. Twice the thickness, so the colour you get on the inside of a bowl.
- Shine
- Drawn as a window reflection. Glossy is sharp, satin is soft, matte has none.
