Founding & Vision
Veldmark is an architecture office founded in 2009 by Joren Aldewey. From the first year it was set up around three working rules: measured drawings, plain decisions and open review.
Over sixteen years the office has grown into a practice of fifty architects and engineers. Each commission is treated as a sequence of tested decisions, checked against site, budget and use until nothing is left to chance.
Every line on paper is treated as a question to be answered by survey, model or calculation — a habit that still sets the way the office takes on new work.
Scope of Work
The office covers a project from the first massing study to the last set of construction drawings.
Services include concept design, facade and layout studies, sketch design and full construction documentation. Each stage is checked by the same team, so decisions made early are carried through to site.
Renderings and physical models complete the service, so clients can see and test a building well before it is built.
Design Method
The method rests on measurement and judgement. Buildings are drawn from site, programme and budget, with each choice recorded and reviewed.
The result is a body of work that is easy to use and cheap to run. Rooms are drawn around the people who use them rather than around a style.
The work ranges from district masterplans to single rooms, with the same drawings standard at every scale.
Sustainability
Carbon and energy are counted from the first sketch. Each concept is compared against a baseline before it goes forward.
The team works with passive design, local and reused materials, energy modelling and whole-life carbon studies. These reduce waste and running costs over the life of a building.
Where a client agrees, buildings are designed for disassembly so that structure and cladding can be reused.
From Sketch to Strategy
Projects start with pencil sketches, diagrams and rough sections that test how rooms connect and how people move.
Sessions between architects, engineers and the client narrow each idea into a buildable direction that is measured and ready for permits.
The scheme then moves into layouts, facades and structure, and is prepared for tender through models, sections and approvals.
Awards & Press
The office has received more than seventy awards in open competitions, including first places at the Northfield Design Prize and the Delta Build Awards.
Projects have been published in over twenty-five magazines and journals in the past year.

Offices
Veldmark runs fourteen studios and site offices across the Netherlands and Italy, with head offices in Halvermeer and Corvara.
Each office works on the same drawing standard and shares one project archive.
