Questions at the counter
What moisture should my timber be?
It should match where it will live. Furniture in a heated room wants 8 to 10 %; cladding is fine at 18 to 20 %. The Kiln page has the full list. We meter any board before you take it.
Do you sell by the board or by volume?
By volume (cubic metres), measured on the sawn size. Pick your own boards in the racks; we measure them at the saw and price them there.
Can I bring a cutting list?
Yes. Bring it, email it, or run it through the Cut list page first. Cutting while you wait is free on boards bought here if you take the offcuts.
What happens to offcuts?
They are yours. Short ends under 600 mm go to the offcut bins by the gate at £4 a crate.
Why does planed timber cost more than sawn?
You pay for the planing time and you lose 5 mm of thickness and width. A 27 mm sawn board comes out at 22 mm.
Can I return boards?
Uncut boards, within 14 days, with the receipt. Cut or planed boards cannot come back.
Do you deliver on Saturdays?
No. Deliveries are Tuesdays and Thursdays. Collection is open Saturday mornings.
Is the yard safe for children?
Children under 16 stay with an adult and away from the saws. Everyone wears the safety boots or toe caps we lend at the gate.
Will you mill my own log?
Yes, on the band mill by the hour. Logs must be free of metal; we scan them first and charge for blades lost to hidden nails.
